Supporting Guinea Bissau to Meet the Sustainable Development Goals
Millennium Institute (MI) participated in a week-long United Nations organized workshop in Guinea Bissau in early October, aimed at accelerating implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Organized as part of the UN Mainstreaming, Acceleration, Policy Support (MAPS) program, the workshop was a first step in the comprehensive program the UN will launch in Guinea-Bissau for the launch in Guinea-Bissau for the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Throughout the week, meetings were held with national authorities, UN agencies, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, and other Guinea Bissau development partners to define priority areas that will jumpstart attainment of the SDGs.
Dr. Matteo Pedercini, MI’s vice president and head of modelling and research practice attended the workshop as one of the experts and facilitators. In his presentation, Dr. Pedercini emphasized the importance of taking a holistic approach to SDG implementation, and demonstrated how MI’s iSDG model facilitates identification of opportunities to leverage the synergies among the SDGs indicators to advance attainment of targets efficiently, while also mitigating unintended consequences of policy decisions.
As part of agreed next steps, MI will partner with the Guinea Bissau government and UNDP to customize the iSDG model to Guinea Bissau for integrated analysis of policy options to accelerate attainment of the SDGs.
